About

A town for 8-bit computers

T8wn is the home of JMP $EA31, a one-person studio making software for the Commodore 64. It is two things at once:

  • a hosting service for small home pages (plots) that 8-bit computers can actually read, and
  • the one account for every JMP $EA31 game and tool.

Why

The web left 8-bit machines behind. Almost every site now insists on HTTPS, which a C64 cannot speak, and a modern web page is bigger than a C64’s whole memory. What was left for going online with a C64 was the BBS.

T8wn wants the thing in between: real pages with links, colors and forms, written in a language small enough for an 8-bit machine (8TML) and served the old way, over plain HTTP. Anyone can write one, and every plot shows up on the regular web as well.

The name

Town, with an 8 in place of the o. Every JMP $EA31 name follows the same rule: Void became V8id, Rover became R8ver. The 8 is kept for names, which is why your page here is simply called a plot.
